Server & Time

New Server Hardware
GatheringRO has been successfully merged to brand new server hardware.
With that, the game server is now running on the latest generation of hardware available, which gives us a great performance boost in all directions.
We made sure to get rid of bottlenecks that we've noticed on our recent server, but also improved performance overall.
Since our patcher system is now running through our website instead of the old game server, this swap was seamless, without the need to re-install the game client.

    SQL Database Performance
A server migration is always a great opportunity to get core software back up to speed with their latest version releases.
But running and maintaining an SQL Database with a vast amount of data bandwith usage can be challenging.
We've invested most of the migration time to improve on core SQL settings, which is the very heart of our game.
Basically everything you do runs through and saves within our SQL database in one way or another.
We will continue to monitor our tweaks to improve our database performance even further, as soon as we've gathered enough live data to do so.

    Server Security
We've always given great care to the security of our game server, but there's always room to improve upon security.
That's why we've increased our security standards for our game server, to keep your account and characters safe and sound.
Please don't forget that it's still necessary for you to keep your username and password private and safe. Do not share them with anyone! We will never ask you for your password.
We highly recommend using password managers like LastPass, to create strong passwords without the struggle to remember them.

    Server Time
Our heroes failed to stop Time Holder, as he managed to change our server time!
But we think he did a great deed! Not only our base time changed, but we also got rid of daylight saving time.
Everything around Gathering Ragnarok Online is now running on the UTC standard format, instead of GMT+1 (+Daylight Saving Time).
What does that mean?
Coordinated Universal Time (or UTC) is the primary time standard by which the world regulates clocks and time. It represents both, UTC (+ 0) and GMT (+ 0). No daylight saving time means, that we will no longer adjust our server time during winter and summer time. It will never change ever again! Conclusion:
It will be easier for players worldwide to calculate the time difference between the server and your county.
If you live in an area of UTC + 4 (or GMT +4), you're simply running 4 hours ahead of our server time.
More and more countries are getting rid of the daylight saving time recently, while others never used it in the first place. We're glad to support the cause by creating more simple time management in our daily life.
In-Game Events:
Our event triggers (WoE, BG Happy Hours, World Bosses) haven't changed yet!
That means everything starts 2 hours prior than before the server migration took place.
We might adjust all events by 1 or 2 hours in a future update, to compensate for the time change.
Both our Website, and the World Boss timers have been adjusted accordingly to represent the new time base.

    WoE Rewards
We've witnessed several players trying to abuse the WoE reward system by feeding kills to friends.
As a result, a handful of player accounts have been temporarily banned and punished additionaly.
At the same time, we've adjusted the WoE reward system, which now punishes feeding accordingly by design.
We also took the time to rebalance some of the base rewards, especially for player kills to fight further against abuse.
Please note that these abuse cases had nothing to do with the recent server downtime.

    Important Statement
Details about the server downtime will not be shared, due to several reasons. However:
We've implemented several counter measurements and increased our logging capabilities to silently track down people we haven't catched just yet, or who're already on our radar. ~<3
We have an absolute 0 tolerance policy to cheating and bug abusing. We don't care about your invested time as long as you don't care about us.
Make sure you're aware about our In-Game rules before heading into oblivion. Just because we haven't catched you right away doesn't mean that you escaped punishment.
Always report bugs, exploits and any other kind of abnormal behavior that you encounter, as stated in our rules.
Don't give us a reason to sneak up on you in the first place.
Second chance is considered creating a new account, not unbanning an account that has been permanently banned.
Since permanent cases have been harming the server/economy and player fairness directly, we show as much mercy as they've shown us and the community. The only way to lower your punishment or be released from it entirely, is by filling a private support ticket or a bug report beforehand.
Please note that we do not hand out permanent bans lightly, they're always our last resort.
Punishments are based on: Type of Theft, Total account history, amount of work that has been put into fixing the mess, how much/long the abuse has been taking place and so on. Once you're on our radar, we take the time to invest your account logs several years backwards.
Investing is always extremely time consuming, which means that other content will be delayed eventualy.
But we take our time to prevent false punishments, and also to understand the core issue, so we can fix it up.

We believe that games should be an escape from reality, so show our community that you're better than the real world out there.
Support us by reporting.
Thank your for your understanding, and your support.

Going Forward

Thank you all for participating in our latest survey, we really appreciate your feedback!
We're glad to hear, that the majority of our player base liked or even loved the recent changes that went through our patcher, forum and news systems.
Also our cloud infrastructure changes reflected in great website speeds and patching download speed improvements all over the globe, based on your feedback!
We couldn't be more happy about the positive words we've recieved!

    The Game
But now, let's talk about the most important thing, that is the game.
We hear you loud and clear, you want changes to the game, the meta, content and events.
GatheringRO has come a long way, 15 years in its original creation that started off with basically no balancing that evolved into full fleshed rebalancings of classes and skills over the years.
New classes have been introduced, and the big Renewal patch shifted the meta and gameplay mechanics on a whole new level.
The core issues of GatheringRO have always been our vast amount of customizations, that forced us to rebalance every single content we've ever released, simply to match our customizations. Rather than being able to push out new content when they became available, it took us months to get things ready to a somewhat balanced state. Players then had to struggle with handing us lots of feedback, to re-balance our balancing patch and so on.
It has always been like this, so we simply moved on with what we've had.
But all this struggle shall come to an end, and we're here to tell you how, and why.

    Normalization
You've heard it in our latest survey, the big word "Normalization". What what is all about?
We were shocked, by how many players were ready with a "Yes, i'm all in", both PvP and PvE players, and we couldn't be more happy about your reactions.
But we feel like these major core gameplay changes require a more detailed summary, to show you in advance what you're willing to sign up for.
So let's get you up to speed, as we look into the upcoming patch, that brings major core gameplay changes to GatheringRO.

    Max Levels
Ragnarok Online has been keeping up with base level increasements over the years. With the planned 4th classes that will become available on official servers in the future, they have planned to get up to Base level 250, which we've always had!
Since the base plan of the Normalization will be to be on par with the official balancing, we're planning to lower the base and job level to the current official one, which is 200 for the base, and 70 for the job level for 3rd classes. This is required so you don't have access to extra attribute points or extra skills, that create untested, maybe badly scaled power peaks under certain circumstances.
With a max job level of 70, it will affect you heavily on your skill builds.
You will have to put much more thought into what skills you're going to unlock, and what fits your playstyle best.
Having access to all skills at any given time will no longer be possible, thus creating your personal builds will become more rewarding and exciting.
Although this change will make you directly weaker, please note that all players and the rest of the game is scaling down with you, as you will notice further down below. At some point in time, we will then follow up with official 4th class release that brings the base level cap of 250 back to the game. But that's a long road ahead from now.

    Max Attributes
For a complete rebalancing act, we will have to reset your lovely character attributes, so you can re-assign them with the official limitations.
Our maximum attribute points will change from a total of 200, down to 130 per attribute.
As part of the complete normalization (aka Official Balance), these changes are required to get the official skill and characters strength to a harmonized level.
The importance of your gear and card selection will increase, as you will strive for best possible cooldown and cast time reductions. This change plays a major role to bring the character overall abilities on part with the official PvP and PvE balancings.
Max ASPD will stay the same, although it will be harder to reach the cap due to the new attribute limitations and base level cap. But yet again, everything else in the world scales down with you.

    Health & Spell Points
We've reduced your max HP/SP in the past, but these changes shall be our final destination.
Our current increased health and spell multiplier (x5) and much higher max HP/SP stats have been messing with our balancing ever since.
Health and Spell Power affects:
- Every single skill that involves HP and SP within their algorithm. For both, skill and effect power.
- Every single gear that involves HP and SP within their effect. Also gear that affects direct skill power.
- Every single Monster attack power, since their strength no longer matches your health.
- Overall character survivability for all game content. (PvP and PvE)
and more...
These very core changes, affected the entire game, and forced us to rebalance, monsters, gears, skills, buffs, consumables, every single instance on every arrival of new content! In reality, we never managed to re-balance it all nor completly, so we've been in a constantly unbalanced environment, especialy when it comes to older content.
We basically had to reverse the x5 multiplier one every content that involved HP in one way or another. Lots of things scaled so badly that one-hit kills would have been your daily business. And as we mostly ignored the SP multiplier for balancing, SP has lost its meaning almost entirely.
With the planned changes, both the HP/SP multiplier (x5) and the maximum HP/SP that you can reach, will be reverted back to official Ragnarok Online stats.
This will not just help us, for the development part of the game, but also you as a player, as we're able to deliver a playtested, official balanced game at a much faster pace!
Since these changes take part along with the overall attribute, skill, item and monster normalization... the actual real impact on your survivability will be much lower than you might expect. "I will die 10 times faster" is absolutely not the case! But yes, the survivability aspect of the game will still change drasticaly.

    Class & Skill Balance
The combat system of Ragnarok Online is at its core an extremely complex balancing act, between classes, stats, skills, gear, weapons, modifier items, monsters and players in both PvP and PvE.
Based on our recent survey, the player's perception of balance splits into all directions.
However all, PvP and PvE players, people who think it's well balanced or not, most players agreed on Normalization, and with that an all new meta.
Over the course, we've rebalanced, customized, weakened and strengthened hundreds of skills over and over to match our customizations. As part of this new base-line, all our current customizations, balancings, buffs and nerfs will be entirely removed/reverted!
No nerfs, no buffs, simply the official balance of all skills and class base settings, from bottom to top.
If nerfs or buffs are going to happen in the future, then by official patches/changes that we will follow up as we move on.
Since this patch also includes entire job overhauls, this is the perfect timing to do a full customization/balancing reset and play how the game was always meant to be played.
These changes combined will reduce the skill spamming, but due to the HP/Stats normalization on both Players and Monsters, skills will eventualy hit harder.

    Items
Oh boy, we've been busy balancing thousands of items over the years.
The aftermath of our re-balancing policy has truly affected lots of official content.
This isn't just about the fact that, the scope of re-balancing requirement is overshadowing our capacity and resources.
It also destroys the original design of entire gear sets, cards and much more.
We believe that you never realised how much work has went into these aspects of the game, and how strongly they've been delaying brand new content.
But it was a base requirement for us to be in a playable game state. Directly releasing new items without taking a proper look at their effect scaling was basically impossible until now.
This patch will delete our item re-balancing history out of existence, and give official gear sets and cards time to shine in an all new light!
We would love to deliver you the real Ragnarok Online experience, that make it worth to grind a new instance, without us following up with a nerf aftermath. We don't like to do that, and we're sure you hate hard nerfs too.
Although this patch itself may be consireded the "ultimate nerf". Reverting our item re-balancings will mainly conclude in gear and card buffs.

    Monsters
Just like with items, we've been religously buffing thousands of monsters in every single aspect.
More lvl, hp, sp, atk, matk, def, mdef, str, agi, vit, int, dex, luk, range1, range2, range3, race, element, speed, attack delay, motion delay and more, to scale their strength with yours....
So we've not just been touching their drop rates, but instead we had to strengthen up all monsters, simply to match the inferious power players achieved due to our customization choices.
Since every monster had to be balanced individualy, we were relentlesly test-running new instances, dungeons and quests over and over and over again, to create an experience that's worthile playing. Honestly, we don't believe that we've been doing a great job all along, and it only postponed updates further back, just like everything else stated above.
So in this case the Normalization means, that we're also deleting our monster customizations (on official monsters) alltogether, unless we feel that bosses could require additional strength to make content more appealing in the future.
While your character becomes weaker, most monsters scale down with you.
Your PvE experience will shift, but it won't be as drastic as it may sound like.

    Customizations
As the core gameplay turns more into the official direction, we're still delivering you the custom content you know and love.
The unique experience that defines GatheringRO will not vanish, but will reshape to fit the official balance.
Some of our custom gear and content will have to adapt to reach that goal, but we have no plans on deleting any of our fully custom content, unless absolutely necessary! Also none of your gear or leveling progress will vanish!
As always, we will be listening to your feedback, but our main goal will be to keep official content as official as possible, more than ever before. Instead we will re-balance all our fully customized content, to fit official content.
So stay with us, tuned, and share your thoughts and ideas to bring GatheringRO to the next level!

    Experience Rate
We've seen more resistance on this topic than on anything else, which took us by surprise.
But even then, a little less than 50% of the player base is still ok with a reduction of our base expierence gain to x500 and less.
With the current experience settings, it is currently possible to reach finalize a transcended 3rd class level 250 in aprox. 10 minutes, depending on your strategy even faster.
The planned base level reduction to 200, will multiply that process even further, and we believe that newcomers have a really hard time to adapt to that.
Absolute beginner, or someone who hasn't played RO in a long time, simply has a bad time to keep up with the insane fast pace. They reach end-game content, before they even learned the basics of class, gear and other main content that RO has to offer. And we believe that's the worst that you can do to the player experience, and the health of a game.
Instead, we would like to reduce the base experience to x500 or less, and allow players to experience the leveling path as key part of the game.
Even though our final decision has not yet been made.
We're still planning to reduce it to x500 or less. But before the final decision, we will be doing some extensive level up tests to get a better feeling on a good leveling pace that we feel fits our server and drop rates best.
We absolutely understand, that experienced players are against this change, but we're sure that you have enough time to fill up your full character line-up until this patch takes place eventualy. It will increase the worth of your current fully leveled up characters in an instant.
This change will bring more value to all our bonus experience consumables, and hopefuly increase the incentive on leveling up together, rather than alone. It also allows us to run bonus experience events, since with an overall lower base experience rate, this would actualy make sense to do so. (2x bonus experience could become quite exciting)
Always remember: Farming Tome of Experience still allows you to level up your character in an instant.

    Conclusion
We hope we were able to give you a deeper insight into what's coming, and what the normalization and experience changes are meant to be. These changes are supposed to help GatheringRO with a better base set of core gameplay, that brings the official meta and balancing to the table.
It will affect all classes, the core gameplay for both PvP and PvE and ultimately re-define the meta from scratch.
We hope that we haven't scared you off, but instead you're looking forward to the new gameplay experience and possibilities these changes have to offer.
Just like with everything else, we're happy to hear your feedback and thoughts.

    Job Improvement Projects
The upcoming patch will include more official "Job Improvement" updates for several classes, just like we've had before with Sura!
That means, some skills will entirely vanish, others will get a complete revamp, while some of them recieve smaller changes on their mechanics. This also includes several older skills and thus effects many classes throughout the game.
And we can push these projects out when they're ready, instead of having to rebalance all classes from scratch.
Overall, you can expect big changes to several classes, and those that are missing out, will most likely follow up sooner or later. This will bring great changes to the current meta and turn on your brain chemistry to come up with new builds.

    New Classes
Yes, Star Emperor and Soul Reaper are under development and already included in our development environment!
However we're currently fully focused on the big normalization and class rebalance patch, so the new classes might arrive at a later date this year.
Since new classes are usualy bound to major client patch requirements, they require additional work for a final release.
We will keep you posted, as soon as we've more details to share.

    The Surveys
    Your Questions & Concerns
We would also like to address a few single questions or concerns that we've recieved through both our latest surveys.
Although it doesn't include everything, we still hope that we're able to answer your main questions and concerns.
Q.) Why do you ignore some of our feedback?
A.) Honestly, that's not our intent. If you're not satisfied with our answer, or you didn't recieve one just yet, just give us a little poke so we take another look at it. We promise that we always take a look at your feedback, especialy through our official feedback channel in our forums. So even if we don't reply to your feedback right away, we've heard you loud and clear and put our thoughts over your ideas. However we try to improve on this aspect, that's why your feedback, bug reports and even your support tickets are now directly posted on their respective Discord channels.
Since we're currently focusing on bigger core gameplay changes, mainly your skill and class balance feedback has not seen any ingame change lately, since they will be meaningless after this patch.

Q.) Why aren't bug abusers or people who bully me punished? They keep on playing like nothing ever happened.
A.) Please note that we only punish players based on your player reports. You should never expect players to be punished without creating an official report, that includes according proof that we can investigate upon.
In fact, we haven't recieved a single, properly reported player report in over 6 months. Please visit our Support Page for more details on how to report a player with our new ticketing system.
We've only recieved reports of warp items abuse in WoE lately, which has been adressed on the item effects itself.
Players that have been actively abusing warping items during WoE have never been properly reported to us, thus no one has been punished.

Q.) Does death count affect my Emperium Fragment gain in WoE?
A.) No, it doesn't, and it never did. Death count only affects your ranking, which isn't bound to the rewards system! We've designed the WoE reward system to be newcomer friendly from the start off, so you should never worry about dying. Players who avoided their death using warping items or logging out didn't boost their reward count at all. However you might have missed out on a possible kill, that's the only loss that happened. In fact, you earn more fragments by simply dealing damage! If you're unlucky and never manage to kill anyone, that's just fine. If you've dealt a reasonable amount of damage, you will be rewarded accordingly.
In fact, we've seen lots of rumors rising up since we've never released our algorithms to the public.
It is much more complex that you most likely imagine, and takes lots of things into account. Due to its complexity, we feel that releasing the exact mechanics will only lead players to focus on the wrong aspect of WoE.

Q.) I've heard that you've been permanently banning players lately, why is that?
A.) Recently no, but yes, we do take appropriate actions based on our official rules that everyone agrees to upon registration. We have a 0 tolerance policy to cheating, and we won't hold back in such cases. If we have absolute clear cases of cheating, or any other hard abuse that's stated as "We do not hesitate to permanently ban all accounts related/being involved into such cases." in our rules, then you shouldn't expect anything less than that. As long as you follow our In-Game Rules, there's no need to worry about getting punished ever, or at all.
All permanent bans that ever took place had absolute clear reasons. We do not permanently ban accounts unless absolutely necessary to keep the integrity of our rules. In most other cases we apply temporary bans at max.
There are some cases, were we catch cheaters and abusers ourself, as we run certain anti cheat and abuse detection systems in the background. But we mainly take a closer look at players if they've been reported to us directly. The punishment itself will only take place, if we can proof a case or multiple cases of cheating/abuse of the reported culprit.
Always make sure to fill out a proper Player Report so we can investigate the case you've experienced.

Q.) Why is it that i sometimes experience errors and crashes?
A.) We're currently not aware about any issues on the game client.
Please open a support ticket or create a bug report, so we can take a closer look at it and fix it eventualy.
The only issues that we're aware of is the Replay Client. We're aware that some replays can't be watched properly and they might crash the client. If you recieve a specific sprite error, make sure to report it to us.

Q.) Why aren't there direct links on the news slider objects on the patcher?
A.) Due the technical limitations with the patcher, links that are directly opened through the web-interface will always be forced to open in Internet Explorer. Since Internet Explorer is a dying and very incompatible soul, we wanted to avoid exactly that. Thus, the announcement button at the bottom was our second best bet. Since Internet Explorer is officialy supported until 2025, we can only hope that the official patching system from Ragnarok Online will recieve an update on this sooner or later. Then, we could offer direct links on the slider in the future. Sidenote: We've had the same exact issue with our old patching system.

Q.) Why do you copy iRO wiki content onto the gRO wiki when it's already existant?
A.) Yes, we've mirrored most of iRO wikis content, to be able to deliver a full-fleshed wiki which expands upon that with custom content. Please note that, even though we copy content from the iRO wiki, we also modifiy it accordingly with custom information. That means it's not always a 1:1 copy, but actualy includes custom information on lots of pages. Main idea behind that is, that you can rely on the gRO wiki without the need of iRO at all, since we deliver the same exact content + GatheringRO customized information on most pages.

Summer Event

Summer has arrived in Midgard, and what better way to beat the heat than by heading down to the water for some good ol' fashioned fishin' fun? The waters all across the land are absolutely rippling with aquatic activity, so what are you waiting for? Grab your fishing rod, bring your friends and let's go!
Wait!
You don't have a fishing rod?!
We'll have to fix that real quick!

    How To Start
Head on over to Althea, by the pond, and talk to the Giant Spirit Aegir.
If you give him the money he needs, he'll fix you up a rod of your choice, including some bait.
Return to Aegir with your best catches to redeem his personal gear!

PRO TIP: Higher quality rods will make it easier for you to catch different variants of fish and goodies, so it's good to have some variety!
They give you different advantages, just like your Lure & Bait, which help beginners to find their way around certain obstacles.
It's possible to unlock even better rods if you get lucky. Talk to Aegir to get further details, tips & tricks on how to go around with your fishing equipment. One of the 2 highest tier rods is available in our token shop in exchange for gRO Tokens.

    Fishing Spots
Equip your fishing rod and fish your way around Rune-Midgard!
There are fishing spots all over the world, all labelled as Fishing Spot.
Once you see ripples in the water, click on it to start fishin'! Choose your rod, your bait, and cast away!

PRO TIP: Enable sound effects to find fishing spots. It also helps you additionaly for faster reaction speeds.
It is also recommended to switch your fishing areas after an extensive fishing session, as the fish population will decrease and needs to replenish.
Areas/towns/fields/dungeons which are nearby share a total population with each other! So make sure you travel far enough before continuing your fishing session.

    Lure & Bait
As mentioned above, you can obtain rods from Aegir, but he also sells some basic lure and living bait.
Based on your choice, the lure/bait may increase your chances of catching Rare Fish by increasing your initial reaction and fight time.
You can certainly fish with the basic lure and rods only, but it won't be easy to catch anything rare that way!
Certain caught fishes may be perfect as a new and bigger bait, which will further help you to catch something even bigger.

PRO TIP: Take a close look at everything that you're catching.
You never know what you're going to catch, but using better lure and bait will help you to succeed.
If you're struggling with harder catches, swap your rod and lure to compensate for your skill.

    Fishes / Sea Animals
There's a huge variety of fishes, trash and other shiny things which you may encounter. But be careful... monsters might be hungry for some more than just a little bait. Some fish types, monsters or other loot might be more rare, depending on your fishing area. For instance a fishing spot within a dungeon might have a higher chance for a boss monster to appear than if you're fishing in a town. Follow your natural instincts!

PRO TIP: Some fish can steal your basic rods and bait even though you have been successful. Upgrading to an advanced rod can help to prevent that.
Some sea animals have swallowed precious treasure for you take out of them.
The faster you have to react, and the faster the fishing action bar is moving, the bigger/better the fish/catch! If you can't hold onto the harder ones, make sure to swap to a better rod and bait combo.

    More Rewards
There's a big variety of rewards which you can get your slippery hands on.
As mentioned already, Aegir exchanges big fish for his personal gear.

His wife, Ran the Water Spirit is seeking for her lost daughters.
She's claiming that they might appear as weird looking fishes to you.
Return them to Ran, and she will greatly reward you with Blue Sea Eggs from the cash shop.

PRO TIP: Ran rewards you with an additional Exotic Exclusive if you can help her to return all of her 9 lost daughters!
The sea & ponds are full with all kinds of treasures to find, so keep on fishin'!

    Fishing Screenshots
Share your fishing experience with the community!
Don't forget to tell us your ingame character name and show us your favourite fishing spot & catch.
The 3 most innovative fishing themed screenshots will be rewarded with some extra Blue Sea Eggs!

Get creative, and tell us your story with an image ~

Cash Shop

Summer Exclusives
The Blue Sea Egg is back, which you can not only purchase from the cash shop, but also unlock by fishing!
This beauty withholds a great set of summer costumes from the past years, and includes brand new summer 2020 exclusives!
We're just a few days away from our annual fishing event, so stay tuned.
Blue Sea Egg has been updated and may now also contain one of the following costumes:

We've added even more time limited exclusives to our cash shop.
Grab them while they're still available!

  Shop Section Changes
This small restructure of our cash shop is based on your feedback that we've gathered during our last survey.
We removed entire cash shop sections, added new ones, and moved several items back and forth.

  Equipment Section
Since the items offered were only mediocre, and adding stronger gear would only generate a pay 2 win situation, we felt removing it is the right way to go. We weren't sure whetever we're supposed to remove or update this section.
Your feedback helped us to go into the right direction and remove it eventualy.

  New Pet Section
We're now featuring a pet section, which mainly features costumes, that ressemble a pet that's following you on your adventures!
Some of them have already been available as limited time offers in the past, while others are brand new. This time around, they're here to stay!
Starting off with a basic set of pets, we've planned to add new ones as time moves on.

The Deluxe Pet Box which includes real pets that require feeding has also been moved into this new section.

  Costume Sets Section
All random costumes have been removed, including all glasses. These are planned to find their way back into other costume shops, which means they will become available for ingame currency eventualy.
Now, this section features class related costume sets and the invisible costume set only.
However we've also plans to further populate it with new class/costume sets in the future.

  Special Offer Section
This section was never in use, as it was bound to an official limited quantity system that never caught our interest.
Since we're already running a limited time section and continue to do so, this special offer section is no longer available.

  Price Reduction
Gym Pass (1piece) has been permanently reduced to 250 cash points. Gym Pass (10 pieces) has been permanently reduced to 2000 cash points. These are permanent character strength upgrades, which can also be unlocked ingame.

New Patcher

New Branding
The re-design of our patcher gave us a great opportunity to re-brand ourselfs.
Our new logo represents Skoll & Hati, the relentless pursuers of Mani & Sol (divinities of the moon and sun).
Also our font is inspired by the old norse signs, which brings us closer to the true experience that Ragnarok Online is all about.
For now, the new logo is only represented on our patcher. But we'll make sure to update other aspects of our representations as we step into the future.

    Patcher Design
A big welcome to all Cyanophobia people out there!
The cyan/blue times are over, as we step into a more grounded and darker era of norse mythology.
While the patcher has been slightly increased in size, we're also featuring a beautiful new art piece from caesty, a very talented artist!
It took multiple iterations and lots of polish to reach this release state.
We hope you enjoy the balance between functionality and design.

    Functionality
We put a lot of thought into the usability of the patcher, and believe that we improved in most aspects.
News
Even though the old patcher offered news with full text and images, it was all smushed into a small box that made it uncomfortable to read and navigate through. With this new approach, we deliver announcements with clear titles and a short summary instead.
The Announcements button at the bottom will then navigate you to the full news experience that we've just recently released.
You may also notice that all website links throughout the patcher will now always open in your default browser instead of Internet Explorer.
Buttons
Yes, there are many new buttons all over the place!
Each one has its own purpose, and now navigates you to the most important places on our website and social media.
The button at the borrom right corner offer you the replay client, support and game settings.

Also don't miss out on the review button, because we rely on it more than ever!
Update your review every few months, and we can reach new stars! (How about right now?)

Official Updates
Did you notice? The ugly box button that says "Official Patches" went missing!
From now on, we package official patches up for you, and deliver them through our normal patch process.
This reduces official patches in frequency, and since we deliver them on demand, you only download content that's actualy required.
So sit back, relax, and focus on playing.

    New Architecture
That's right, this isn't just a simple re-skin of our existing system, there's an entire new architecture running behind the curtain.
The new patcher system is based on the official Ragnarok Online patcher, which means it's a proper, field tested solution that just works!
It gives us the reliability and stability a patcher must have, to deliver you a frictionless patching experience.
False Anti-Virus positives are a thing of the past, which also allows us to change the patcher in design or functionality at any given time.
Official Updates
As mentioned before on this convenience change, this also improves a lot from a technical standpoint.

The fact that we're now also delivering official patches directly, means that at any given time a player has the same client patch state just like us.
This helps us immensely on fixing technical issues like missing sprites, etc.
At the same time, official patches can no longer interfere with our own. Several players experienced missing translations, simply because official patches were overwriting our customizations. Scribblish Achievement text was a great example that resulted out of that.
This can no longer happen!

    Patch Speed
Our old system delivered all data directly from the game server.
While our game server has very broad bandwith to offer a reliable and fast connection, it also uses lots of other ressources during patch-peaks which could possibly affect our game server's performance. To reduce impact on gameplay to a minimum, we were forced to limit download speeds and take other precautions. This resulted in overall mediocre download speeds.
From now on, all patches are being delivered through our webhost instead.
This means that patches will run through Cloudflare's Global Anycast Network, that serves content from the closest server near you.
In theory, this should reduce answer latency and hopefuly also increase download speeds for most likely everyone.
We're not entirely sure if the Cloudflare caching algorithm takes all patch files in to account, so we rely on your feedback.
Share your experience with us, as we're keen to hear if there's any improvement in speed and stability, when compared to our old patch process!
It's really great to know that our game server can now fully focus on your skill spam ~ keyboard smashes instead.

To improve the experience for our player base, and improve our efficiency, we now feature a ticketing system.

This helps us to better track on current bugs, and give players better feedback on our progress.

Vote Shop - End of Life

That's right, we're shutting down our vote shop system by the end of this month!
Everyone who's got some points left, should go on a shopping tour before your vote points will vanish by the 30th of June.
You can still access it for now by visiting: https://gatheringro.ch/vote

The Reasons
We Hate Daily Voting!
Let's be honest: No one likes to vote, it's a chore. Some people feel forced to do so, because you miss out on rewards.
And having certain quest items bound to a vote shop system, only makes it worse.

Bad Results
Our website statistics clearly show: top sites don't bring any new players...
When we ask you to help us by writing a short review, it's because:
All top sites combined, bring less monthly visitors than a single player review, which result in over 50% of total new monthly visitors!
Pro Tip: Instead of wasting minutes with voting every day, write a single 5 minute review instead, which supports us for months to come.
It really helps!

Shady Business Strategies
Smaller servers don't ever get a chance because they're being overshadowed by the big guys.
The main way to get ranked higher: Purchase fake votes.
You either pay a monthly subscription, purchase votes directly or compete in actual auctions to keep your site as high as possible.
This is not just extremely expensive as you pay per page, but also creates absolutely unrealistic results for top site visitors.
To put it simple: Top Sites ratings do not reflect a good server, they reflect forced votes, and who's spending the most money.

Toxic Backlinks
Search engines like google and co. run very complex algorithms to determine the best possible search results.
These algorithms also rate websites worse, based on toxic backlinks, which are links that are being posted via paid services or things like these top sites. Getting our website removed from these pages will ultimately improve organic search engine results (real visitors finding us through search engines).

Lacking Updates
Oh boy, isn't it boring? The vote shop basicaly faced its end of life when we stopped with seasonal content rotations, what a shame...
While it helped us to focus on ingame content, the shop did no longer fullfill basic expectations of our player base.

The Day After
Don't you worry about our fellow member of the GatheringRO Corp!
The Vote Prize Redeemer will continue to serve you with rewards, just in a different way:
After the 30th of June, our gRO Token merchants will recieve an update to include vote shop items that are being moved over, so you have a new way to redeem your precious consumables and tools!

So make sure you use all your vote points, before they're gone! Vote Points can no longer be accessed after the 30th of June.
https://gatheringro.ch/vote

All these reasons combined lead to a very simple conclusion.
Let's say goodbye to top sites, so we can spend more time playing the game.

Let us celebrate its upcoming demise! ~<3

What's New?
Our website and forum has been getting some love lately, which both now return clean URLs. Here's an example:
Old Address: https://www.gatheringro.ch/index.php?module=account&action=view
New Address: https://gatheringro.ch/account/view/

It's not just user friendly, it also helps for better search engine ratings, which is a great plus.
There were are also plenty of content updates on several web, wiki and forum guide pages. Information is power!

What's Next?
1.) As usual, bug fixes and smaller changes are on the horizon, which are based on your reports. Thank you <3
2.) You told us in our last survey that it sucks, and we listened. A brand new patcher is coming! It is a reliable, field tested system, that improves your experience with brand new visuals and the removal of manually patching official updates!
3.) We're currently also working on a big update, which still requires lots of work and testing to get it done right. This one will bring a vast amount of changes, big and small!

Stay tuned, safe, and connected:

Guide Event

Dear GatheringRO players,
let's support each other with some new and updated guides by introducing the unique forum event Write-A-Guide!
This event has officialy started and will last until the 30th of June. Every new guide that is written within that period of time or every guide that receives a major overhaul by its author will automatically be registered for this event.

The main criterion for this event is QUALITY & DETAILED INFORMATION.

Writing multiple guides that lack in quality will not improve your chances to be among the winners. The more effort you put into this, the higher the chances we will not let your efforts go to waste. If you want your old guide to be considered, you will have to do some major edits (e.g. if it currently lacks pictures, add those, go further into detail etc.).
However that doesn't mean that cluttering your guide with tons of random images will improve its quality.
Sometimes less is more, so make sure you create a clean guide everyone is able to pick up with ease.
We prefer original guides for our Custom GatheringRO Features or Class Guides as this will help newbies and oldies find their way around GatheringRO.

You can also write your own version of guides that already exist but which heavily lack in up-to-dateness (again, make sure the effort you put into it is visible). Keep in mind that in order to qualify guides have to be written in reasonable English and they have to contain high quality images.

Lastly, we want to show you that we appreciate your recent guides. That's why we decided to also consider recent guides that are not older than 2 months for this event. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. There can be multiple winners. Prizes are intentionally set very high as each entry requires a lot of effort and contributes greatly to the community. We will choose 1 guide from among the winners which will receive Cash Points as an additional prize, and a 2nd and 3rd prize for an additional Account Plus egg.

Prizes for every winner:
1x GatheringRO Surprise Box
2x Surprise Box (15-20 Tokens)
1x Chest of Loyalty
1x Exclusive Costume Golden Question Mark (Equip Location: Upper Head)

Additional Prize for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd best guide:
1xAccount Plus for 1 Month

Additional Prize for the best guide:
1x 2000 Cash Points

Summary:
Date: 2020.05.21 - 2020.06.30 How to participate: Write a new guide or (significantly) update an old guide of yours Criteria: Quality, up-to-dateness, English (punctuation, grammar etc.), Images Prizes: All winners get the prizes listed above, the best guides win additional prizes
  Uploading Images:
We prefer images being uploaded to our forums rather than using external image hosting services.
This ensures that they don't get lost over the years!
It's a simple drag&drop upload system, super fast to use and can be used for free.
It also helps us to keep your effort for the longest period of time possible.

Thank you

OGH Overhaul

Old Glast Heim - Normal & Hard Mode
This overhaul brings major changes to the reward experience for both normal and hard mode and changes the way you upgrade your temporal boots.
The release of hard mode brought a very unbalanced experience when it came to the rewards and upgrades, and this update shall rectify those problems.

  New Reward Mechanics
There are now 2 main reward sections in the dungeon that rewards every party member individualy.
This change highly increases the reward base-line for bigger parties and does no longer force you into solo power-farming.

a.) Corruption Root now rewards 20-40 Coagulated Spell or 20-30 Contaminated Magic per player.
b.) Amdarais now rewards 50-80 Coagulated Spell or 50-80 Contaminated Magic (slightly lower chances) per player.

Please note that on top of the guaranteed 50 drops, there are multiple bonus drop chance packages ranging from 75-10% to be more rewarding rather than being a flat, fully random 50-80.

That means each player has a guaranteed base-reward of at least 70 Coagulated Spell or Contaminated Magic respectively, by finishing the dungeon.
It is expected to easily reach >100 Coagulated Spell or Contaminated Magic per player with the current drop / reward chances, regardless of party size.

  Monster & Drop Rate Changes
* Monster drop rates have been highly reduced to a base of only 5-10% drop chance. Rather than being the main-reward in the instance, these now act as a bonus on top of the main reward sections mentioned above. Of course, these drop chances can be further enhanced by using consumable drop boosters.
* The excessive Temporal Crystal rewards have been reduced to 2 guaranteed drops per run, while having the chance to get an additional one from Amdarais. Hard Mode now has tripple the chance to drop an additional one, compared to Normal Mode.
Please note that since the release of the hard mode, the total amount of Temporal Crystals that can be farmed per day have already been more than doubled while the upgrade prices remain.
* Maggots do no longer drop Spells or Magic, which brings them more to their original purpose; avoid getting near bodies. This should also slightly speed up your time spent within the dungeon while keep being reward-efficient.
* Bodies which spawn Maggots do no longer respawn once they've been triggered.
* Additionaly to the random chance of the commander appearing, there's now also a hard-cap of 80 monsters that can be killed which will then ultimately spawn the commander in any case. This fixes the issue of getting stuck at this second stage, while also limiting the reward drops which before could have been exploited.
* Monsters will no longer respawn upon the commander has been spawned.
* The secret room rewards now drop one additional Coagulated Spell each.

  New Temporal Boots Enchant Process
* Upgrades from lvl 1-4 are now exclusively paid with Coagulated Spells.
This brings back their old value in the overall enchanting process. The costs remain the same.

* The second enchant is now exclusively paid with 400 Contaminated Magic.
While this price has been increased, Contaminated Magic are no longer required for the rest of the echanting process.
Their main purpose is now for either slotting your boots, getting the second enchant or buying cards.

* You can now choose the currency to slot your boots.
a.) LOW chance - 50 Choagulated Spells (lower chance compared to pre-update)
b.) MEDIUM chance - 50 Contaminated Magic (same chance compared to pre-update)
c.) HIGH chance - 5 Temporal Crystals (increased chance compared to pre-update)

Checkout our updated Temporal Boots Enchants Wiki entry for full details.
It now also features a Flowchart to see the entire Upgrade/Enchant process.

  Misc. Updates
* Reduced the high flee rate of Morocc Necromancer and Naght Seiger.
* Fixed an issue with World Boss Chests that in rare cases resulted in players not recieving a reward due to a redundant damage check.

  Cash Shop
* Our Limited Time section now features Deluxe and VIP Consumables with a -20% price reduction for a limited time!
